Your natural gas bill represents two services: purchasing gas and delivering
it to your home. Here are a few descriptions of some items on your bill.
Amount Due
The amount due is listed near the top of your billing statement and on the
payment stub, near the bottom of your billing statement. This is the total
amount you are responsible for paying by the payment due date.
Delivery Charge
The delivery charge is for bringing the gas to your home or business. This
amount can vary with the volume of natural gas you use, but typically, gas
delivery accounts for about 25% of your bill.
Gas Charge
The gas charge is what it cost North Shore Gas
to buy the natural gas on the open market. You pay what we pay for gas with
no additional charges. This is the portion of your bill that's seen so much
volatility in recent years and is currently averaging about 70% of your
monthly bill.
Taxes
These are taxes and other fees that local and state governments require us
to charge and they typically represent the remaining 10% of your bill.
