Reading My Meter
Reading your electric or natural gas meter is pretty easy. The dials, which look like little clocks, alternately run clockwise and counterclockwise. Reading from left to right, just write down the last number the needle has passed. The difference between the new reading and the last one is your monthly energy use.
The reading in the example below is 94838:

Each month, North Shore Gas calculates your natural gas use by reading your meter. The reading can be taken in several different ways:
- Actual Reading: Most North Shore Gas customers have a SureRead device installed on their meters. The reading is transmitted via radio to a North Shore Gas van, without us having to enter your home.
- Estimated Reading: There are times when we may be unable to read your meter. At these times, we may need to estimate your bill, based on past use and recent weather conditions. Any differences between the estimated reading and your actual use will be made up at your next meter reading.
- Customer Reading: You can enter your own reading if you create an online profile for My Account or if you are already registered, sign in to My Account. If you have any questions, call 866-556-6004.
