Reading your natural gas meter is easy. The dials look like little clocks and alternately run counterclockwise and clockwise. Start from the left. If the hand on the dial points between two numbers, enter the lower number, unless the hand is between 9 and 0, in which case use the 9.

The reading in the example below is 4869:

Sample Meter with Reading of 94838

Each month, North Shore Gas calculates your natural gas use by reading your meter. The reading can be taken in several different ways:

  • Actual Reading: Most North Shore Gas customers have a SureRead device installed on their meters. The reading is transmitted via radio to a North Shore Gas van, without us having to enter your home.
  • Estimated Reading: There are times when we may be unable to read your meter. At these times, we may need to estimate your bill, based on past use and recent weather conditions. Any differences between the estimated reading and your actual use will be made up at your next meter reading.
  • Customer Reading: You can submit your own reading if you registered for online access. If you have any questions, call 866-556-6004.
